Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. — Abraham Lincoln
A person’s character relates to his or her moral values, individual nature and behaviour.
Only those who are born of the Holy Spirit are able to manifest God’s character. That’s because His children become spiritual beings. John 3.6
The emotional or fleshly nature is changed into a rational or spiritual nature.
That’s the reason why many people keep wondering why, despite being faithful members of a church or being overly religious, they are still unable to display a behaviour that is compatible with the Christian faith.
They behave one way when they are in church, but they act completely different when they are outside.
In the church, they are righteous, polite and, apparently, spiritual.
At home, at work, or among their friends, they are carnal, rude, and obviously troubled people.
This happens because they have not been born of the Holy Spirit. They do not have God’s nature. They have been convinced of the truth, but they have not yet converted to the Lord Jesus. Their character speaks for itself.
Humans are emotional by nature; it all began with Adam and Eve. God created them living beings.
A divine nature is a spiritual nature, and it originates in Jesus. He was not created by God, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit; therefore, a life-giving spirit. I Corinthians 15.45
The same procedure the Holy Spirit used to conceive Jesus must also be used to conceive each one of Jesus’ disciples. Otherwise, they will continue to have the same nature as Adam. And even worse: they will not be considered God’s children.John 1.13
This what the Holy Spirit is for:
To some people, He comes to make them be born again.
To those who have already been born again, He comes to seal them with the Seal of God. This is the baptism performed by the Lord Jesus.
The first apostles were born again when Jesus breathed on them. John 20.22
But only on the Day of Pentecost were they baptised with the Holy Spirit. Acts 2.1
As you can see, the reason for the Holy Spirit is not for you to speak in tongues, but for you to display the same character as His Son: Jesus.
